ST. BARBARA SCHOOL

PROCEDURES

Please review the list below and remember that keeping our children safe is one of our top priorities and worth the extra effort. Miss Erazmus and/or Mrs. Carone need to know who is in the building at all times. In this day and age, children should not think that it is acceptable for adults to be randomly walking throughout the school. The school must be a secure area!

  • On bad weather days the children should arrive at school no earlier than 8:20. Parents should leave their children at the door. Patrol will be there to assist them if needed. Students arriving earlier than 8:20 will be sent to Extended Day.
  • Everyone should use the Sign-In board located in the office when entering the school building.
  • Students who arrive late should stop in the school office for a tardy slip and can then go to their classrooms on their own.
  • As in the past, NO ONE is allowed into the classrooms or hallways without permission from either Miss Erazmus or Mrs. Carone. Appointments should be made with the faculty if you wish to speak with them. The teachers are busy with their students once the bell rings.
  • Please ring the bell even if patrol has the doors propped open in order to take the cones in and out.
  • Please say your name when prompted. When picking up your child from Extended Day, please say either your name or your child’s name instead of something like “picking up my child”.
  • When leaving the building, it is important that you do not let anyone in. If someone is approaching the door, please wait until they ring the bell and are let in by the office personnel
  • Please respect the privacy of ALL papers, articles, etc. left on Mrs. Carone’s desk, in the copy room or anywhere in the office area.
  • Please do not pull into the Parish Center parking lot, stop and let children and/or adults out of the car. By doing this you stop traffic behind you that is pulling into the lot, which in turn stops traffic on Prairie Avenue. There is a heavy volume of pedestrians in that area in the morning including those who are attending our morning Mass. We ask that you please park in a spot before letting anyone out of your car.
  • Parents should not be coming to school during lunchtime to see their child(ren). This could result in a dangerous situation with students possibly running into traffic to get to their parent(s). It also alarms the parents who watch the student when they see a child approaching a parked car or speaking to an unfamiliar adult. If you need to come to school during lunch, you must inform the office of your plans. We, in turn, will notify the lunch moderators. Also, please be advised that parking on the east side of Prairie Avenue is illegal.
  • All students, as well as parents, should listen to our students on patrol. They are following the procedures that have been trained for, and are there for the safety of all.
  • Please do not park in the parking lot north of the school building. This lot is reserved for the faculty and staff of St. Barbara School. Also, you should not enter into this lot from the street or alley for the safety of the children.
  • Traffic is much heavier and drivers are more impatient than ever. Please instruct your child(ren) to listen carefully to our crossing guard and to the students on patrol. Remember that our children learn best from our example. Also, once the cones are on the street, under no circumstances should they be moved in order to get by.
  • We ask that you do not bring animals in front of the school or smoke outside the school building while the students are present. We continue to take into consideration that many of our students have asthma and different types of allergies.

THANK YOU IN ADVANCE FOR YOUR COOPERATION.
