ST. BARBARA SCHOOL
THURSDAY TIDBIT

God’s Words Guide Us                                           January 19, 2006

PRINCIPAL NOTES: Letters will be going home tomorrow with report cards regarding Optional Parent Teacher Conferences on Thursday, January 26th.

We appreciate you cooperation in following the dress code for St. Barbara’s. Please be sure the boys’ hair is above the collar. It should not be hanging down in their eyes or long over their ears. Girls should be wearing a pointed collar, short sleeve blouse from Schoolbelles. I continue to see girls wearing the round collar blouse. These are not part of the school’s uniform.

Please remember Sr. Margaret and her Food Pantry. She is in need of food year round and will accept donations in the school office at any time of the year.

I would like to share the following inspirational passage with you:
As a parent you are the primary educator of your child in almost all of life, including the life of faith. Being primary educators means educating in the broadest sense of the word. It means so much more than simply helping your child learn basic doctrine such as the Ten Commandments or the seven sacraments. It means that you share your own faith with your child and demonstrate by your life what it means to be a person of faith, a Catholic Christian. By watching you as you live, pray, and interact with others, your child develops a sense of what is really important in life. Children truly learn what they live. If you actively live your faith every day, then you will help your child grow as a person of faith who is able to respond to life as a true follower of Jesus Christ.

RESPECT LIFE: Excerpts from Cardinal George’s Letter on the 33rd Anniversary of
Roe v. Wade January 11, 2006
“As you know, this January 22 is the 33rd anniversary of Roe v. Wade and Doe v. Bolton, the U.S. Supreme Court decisions that opened the door to abortion on demand throughout all nine months of pregnancy and even during birth. Since 1973, more than 46 million children have been aborted in our nation. This national tragedy has a tremendous local impact within the Archdiocese of Chicago. According to the Illinois Department of Public health, more than 22,900 abortions took place in Cook and Lake Counties in 2004 alone. Thousands of women and men suffer in silence in the pews of our parishes, while many have left the Church entirely because of their abortion experience. As the Body of Christ, we are left with the significant task of reaching out with Christ’s hope and healing to those suffering from post-abortion aftermath, while peacefully working to prevent the additional killings of thousands of innocents right in our own communities. The prayers and penance of the faithful…and (the ministry of those) dedicated to the cause of life, will ultimately transform our culture into one that cherishes and protects every human life, no matter how unformed, broken, guilty or vulnerable that life might be.” Francis Cardinal George, O.M.I.

St. Barbara Vigil for Life, Monday, January 23rd, 7pm, in church

THE RONALD MCDONALD HOUSE really appreciates our donations of pop tabs. All proceeds collected from pop tabs go directly into the operating costs of the house. The Ronald McDonald House near Loyola is a much needed and temporary “home away from home” for families of seriously ill or injured children receiving medical care at nearby hospitals. Over 5000 families have stayed at the House since its opening in July 1995.
Did you know? 12 pop tabs = 1 foot 1,267 tabs = 1 lb.
63,360 tabs = 1 mile 1,000,000 tabs = 790 pounds
