PRINCIPAL NOTES:  Catholic Schools Week begins this Sunday, January 29, 2006 through February 3, 2006.  Please join us at our Sunday Mass at 9:30 on January 29th.  The school will be open for all parishioners and any new families to visit and register for the next school year immediately following the 9:30 Mass until 1:30 on Sunday.   We ask that children stay with their families and not run up and down the stairs or in the corridors. 

Our Ethnic Fair will be open for viewing on Sunday after Mass in the Windemere Room.  We ask that all students remain by their displays during the Open House.  You are most welcome and invited to join us, also, in a variety of activities we have prepared for this exciting week.   

Congratulations to John Johnson who won the National Catholic Education Association Distinguished Graduate Award for his continued ministry to our school and parish!  This award is always given to a former graduate of St. Barbara School who remains involved in parish life.  Also, Congratulations to Mrs. Kim James, our 4th grade teacher, who won the Heart of the School Award.  Presentations of both awards will take place at the 9:30 Mass this Sunday.

The Terra Nova Tests will begin on March 6th through March 16th for students in grades 2, 3, 5 and 7.  Barring any illness, please do not schedule doctor appointments, trips, etc. during this time, as it is very important that the students are in school for testing.

VOLUNTEER MASS:  Each year during Catholic Schools' Week, the students and faculty of St. Barbara School recognize the efforts of our many volunteers at a special school liturgy.  This year, to show our appreciation for all of the work that our "helping hands" do for us, the third and sixth grade classes will be baking bread to be consecrated and used as Communion during the mass, on February 1st.  The recipe we will be using includes:  wheat flour, white flour, baking powder, salt, honey, molasses and oil.  If any of these foods present health issues or concerns for you, please remember that you need not avoid receiving Communion altogether, but may go directly to the minister with the Chalice to receive Communion in the form of wine only.  We look forward to preparing and offering this work of our hands to those who so frequently, and generously, give of theirs. --Mrs. Kunkel and Mrs. Bailey

 
HOT LUNCH ORDERS FOR MARCH: Order forms for March have been sent home with each student today and the menu is included in the tidbit.  Orders are due by February 14th ♥.  Please adhere to the deadline.  Thanks.

HOME RUN INN PIZZA DAY: Order forms for the February 16th Home Run Inn Day have been sent home today.  If you are placing both a hot lunch order and a Home Run Inn order, please include separate checks.

BENEFIT GAMES: This years basketball benefit game is now set. It will be Sunday, February 12th at Nazareth High School. We will again be playing against St. Louise. All of our girls and boys team will play. Games will start at 12:30pm. See the insert in paper tidbit for more details.

FUNDRAISER: We are raffling off TWO FREE TICKETS ON AMERICAN AIRLINES to help benefit our Athletic department. See the insert [in paper tidbit] for more details. [contact the Athletic office for more details.]

• We would like to thank the Girls JV and Varsity Basketball teams for the wonderful effort and excellent sportsmanship they have displayed through this entire basketball season.  You're a great group of players and St. Barbara School is proud of each and every one of you.  Thank you!
• Please congratulate St. Barbara's Girls Basketball All-stars who will be representing our school on the 7th and 8th Grade Teams.  The games will be played on Sunday, January 29, 2006 at Trinity High School, 7574 Division (intersection of Lathrop and Division) in River Forest.  The 7th grade game will be at 4:00 pm and the 8th grade game will be at 5:00 pm.   
• Please keep Saturday, February 25, 2006 in mind for Sports pictures.  Times for each team will be posted at a later date.  The Track and Field team will also be photographed that day along with football, basketball and volleyball.
