ST. BARBARA SCHOOL
THURSDAY TIDBIT
God’s Words Guide Us                                 April 6, 2006

PRINCIPAL NOTES:  Please join us tomorrow in church at 1:30 and/or 7:30 for
our LIVING STATIONS presented by our 7th and 8th graders.

A flier was sent home yesterday about a collection being taken for a cousin of two of our students, Javi and Elizabeth Arellano.  Even though Juan’s surgery will be tomorrow, monetary donations are being accepted at any time.  Please show your generosity by helping out Juan’s family.

A special thank you goes out to our Fire Department for teaching our students fire safety and the importance of smoke detectors and keeping the batteries fresh.  I hope all our school families have installed the new smoke detectors provided by our local Fire Department.

Our school will receive money for each cap from Kemps milk gallons that are handed in.  I’ve been told that Berwyn Fruit Market is one store that sells Kemps milk and it’s reasonably priced at $1.99 a gallon along with reasonably priced lunch meat.

We are happy to announce that our 8th grader, Carrie Turek, was chosen to receive the 2006-2007 Nazareth Academy Unity Award Scholarship.  This award is given to incoming freshmen who are proven student leaders.   Congratulations Carrie!

RESPECT LIFE:      LIFE NIGHT 2006 A Program for Archdiocesan Youth Ministries,
Monday April 24, 7:30pm, St. Patrick Parish, 991 S. Waukegan Rd., Lake Forest, IL  60045
The word Chastity is almost taboo in our culture, but Jason Evert challenges this mentality.  Jason, along with MC Mary-Louise, speaks from the heart, giving witness to why our present relationships will shape our future life, and how we owe it to our future spouse and children to live chastely now!  Accompanied by recording artist and youth minister Angus McDonell, the message of Chastity will be shared through witness and music!  For more information, call Alicia Torres at the Respect Life Office:  312-751-5355 or atorres@archchicago.org.  Admission is free.

SPRING IS HERE!  The outdoor Art and Environment Committee is having a parish grounds cleanup from 9 a.m. to noon on Saturday, April 22nd, in conjunction with Brookfield’s Project N.I.C.E. (Neighbors Involved in a Clean Environment).  The village’s N.I.C.E. committee is having an adult raffle with a chance to win a two-night stay at the Hyatt Regency Chicago.  Adults who are interested should sign up that day at the Village Hall.  The village also will be giving Project N.I.C.E. t-shirts to the first 150 volunteers, give-a-ways for kids and snacks for all.  For those who are able, we’ll meet at the Village Hall at 8:45 a.m. with kickoff at 9 a.m. with a safety talk.  Then we’ll get started cleaning up the parish grounds.  If not joining us at the Village Hall, come right to the Parish Center at 9a.m. All volunteers should bring rakes and gloves.
