ST. BARBARA SCHOOL
THURSDAY TIDBIT

Surprise Someone With a Random Act of Kindness          August 31, 2006

PRINCIPAL NOTES:  A special welcome to all our returning students, our new students and all of our school families.  Please read under separate cover our Orientation Night schedule for Thursday, September 7th.

Kindergarten through 8th grade will again be attending the Friday morning 8:00 a.m. Mass each week beginning Friday, September 15th.  At which time your child should be in their classrooms by 7:50 a.m.

I want to give a special thank you to Kevin Paloucek, Ron Schwerin, Jay Broderick, Juan Gamboa, and Father Murphy for spending their entire summer installing our new gym floor.  As I’m sure your children have told you already…..It looks great!

Coming home today under separate cover is the letter and schedule for Parent Orientation Night on Thursday, September 7th.

Please be sure to complete and return the Website Permission Form coming home today under separate cover.

We are in need of a volunteer to run the school library.  If anyone is interested or would like more information, please call the school office.

We are aware that Schoolbelles Uniform Company is not fully stocked on many of our uniform items.  Until you receive your uniforms, please send your child to school in nice clothes (no jeans).  Gym shoes should be worn only on the day your child has gym class.  They can wear shorts and a t-shirt on gym days also until they receive their gym uniform.

Please do not put tuition envelopes in the Market Day mailbox in front of the rectory.  If there is no one in the school office, you can put your envelope in the Rectory mail slot in the door at the Rectory.

BINGO:  Please see the enclosed schedule for Bingo workers for the school year.  If your name is not on the sheet and you have not opted out and paid the fee, please contact Janae O'Connell (387-1228) or Cathy Kaz (485-5746) as soon as possible.  It is required that all families work at least one Bingo during the school year.  If you are unable to work on the date assigned, you must find a replacement to work for you and notify Cathy or Janae of the change as soon as possible.  A sign-up sheet will also be available for families at the Orientation on September 7, 2006.

Also, we are always grateful for extra help.  If you would like to join us at any Bingo to help out, we would always appreciate it!  We are looking forward to a fun and successful year at Bingo.
Thank you!  - Janae and Cathy

BAND NEWS:  Concert Band’s first rehearsal is Tuesday, September 5th at 7:30 a.m.   All students 5th – 8th who have played one year or more are welcome.  Beginning students in grades 4th – 8th will be tested and given a chance to try different band instruments throughout September.  Beginning band will start in October.  See you there!       - Mr. Enns, Band Director

HOT LUNCH UPDATE:  So far things have run smoothly in the lunch room.  Please remind your children that the soda machine in the lunch room cannot be used on days when hot lunch is served.  There have not been too many forgotten lunches but we will soon be implementing a fee for forgotten lunches.  Food Service Professionals, our hot lunch provider, will be supplying us (for a charge) with shelf stable lunches consisting of graham crackers, a package of jelly and a package of peanut butter and a flavored fruit bar and milk.  If your child is allergic to any of these food items, please send a note to Nancy Brown through the school office ASAP.  These lunches will be given to students who do not have a lunch on a given day but a note will be sent home asking for payment of $2.25 to cover the cost.  We will no longer be providing peanut butter and jelly sandwiches at no cost to students without lunches.  Also, remember that forms for free or reduced lunch can be submitted at any time throughout the school year.  Thank you for your understanding.  Watch next week’s tidbit for October menus and lunch forms.  If you have any questions, please call Nancy Brown, 387-7334.

HOME RUN INN PIZZA DAY:  Forms for the first Fun Lunch/Fund Raiser to be held September 19th have been sent home with each student today.  Home Run Inn pizza can be ordered by the slice and you will again have the option of pre-paying for a soda.  All forms are due back by September 12th.  If you have any questions, please call Nancy Brown, 387-7334.

IMPORTANT CALENDAR CHANGE:  8th grade graduation has been rescheduled for Saturday, June 2nd, at 1:00 p.m.  Please correct your yearly calendars.  An announcement was sent home with each 8th grade student yesterday.

MANNA CERTIFICATE PROGRAM:  Effective with orders that were placed after July 24th, the discount for Toys R Us cards was changed to 2%.
