ST. BARBARA SCHOOL
THURSDAY TIDBIT

Surprise Someone With a Random Act of Kindness                     November 30, 2006

PLEASE NOTE: The Feast of the Immaculate Conception is Friday, December 8th. We will not be attending the 8:00 morning Mass on that day. Instead the school children will be participating in the 10:00 morning Mass and all are welcome to join us! Therefore, on Friday, December 8th, the students should come to school at the regular time.

PRINCIPAL NOTES: I’m sure the entire school family joins me in congratulating our students who will be receiving the Sacrament of Reconciliation for the first time tonight at 7:00 pm.

Many thanks to all of you for your generous donations to Sr. Margaret’s Pastoral Care Office for Thanksgiving Day. Many people enjoyed a real feast. Also, thank you for the monetary donations received from the Adopt-a-Family out-of-uniform. We will truly make some children very happy at Christmas!

The West Suburban Catholic Charities is asking schools to bring in a specific food item to be donated to those in need. They have asked that each St. Barbara student bring in a box of Macaroni and Cheese. Collections will be taken during the week of December 4th.

The Brookfield crossing guard stationed on Prairie Avenue near the railroad tracks asks that for the safety of the children, that they walk on the west side of Prairie Avenue between the school and the tracks. If they cross Prairie Avenue outside the school, then she is not able to cross them when they get to the busy intersections just over the tracks. Please talk to your children about this.

The Archdiocese of Chicago has put together a wonderful coffee table book called Journey of Faith. This book illustrates the history of the Chicago Archdiocese while featuring information on our parishes, schools and other institutions. The introductory price of this book is $35 through the school or rectory office. This would make a lovely gift. You can view this book in the rectory office.

CLASS PICTURE RETAKES: A reminder that picture retakes are tomorrow. ONLY those students having their pictures taken will be allowed out-of-uniform in dress clothes. If you are having retakes taken, please remember to send the portrait package you ordered in October with your child. Anyone who was absent on picture day will need to have their picture taken also. If you have any questions, please call Dawn at 485-6645.

SCHOOLBELLES is having their annual sale. Please see enclosed flier for details.

The top ten 7th and 8th graders will go on to the next level of our competition which will be Wednesday, December 6th at 1:30. The final winner of the bee at our school will advance to the next level of competition, which is a written examination to determine state competitors. All school winners are eligible to win the national championship and its first prize, a $25,000 college scholarship at the National competition in Washington, D.C.! Good luck to all of them!!!

Box Tops/Campbell Labels/Tyson Labels & Milk Caps Update…The winner of “Save Your Turkey from Thanksgiving Dinner” was the 6th Grade. The 7th & 8th graders received a candy treat. Please take the time to look at the flyer in today’s tidbit. There’s a new collection sheet on the back for our next contest, “Mystery Christmas Presents”. Remember, Campbell’s will no longer be accepting the front panel of the label after 12/31/06.
