ST. BARBARA SCHOOL
THURSDAY TIDBIT
Surprise Someone With a Random Act of Kindness December 7, 2006
PLEASE NOTE: The Feast of the Immaculate Conception is Friday, December 8th. We will not be attending the 8:00 morning Mass on that day. Instead the school children will be participating in the 10:00 morning Mass and all are welcome to join us! Therefore, tomorrow the students should come to school at the regular time.
PRINCIPAL NOTES: Be sure to visit our school website at www.stbarbaraschool.com You’ll be surprised at all the information that is readily available to you.
The students will be doing their Christmas shopping today and tomorrow at FSA’s Santa Secret Shop.
CHRISTMAS PROGRAM REMINDERS: The Christmas Program begins at 7:00 p.m. The students are asked to be in their seats by 6:30. Band students should also be at church by 6:30. Mr. Enns will be looking for a few band members to help him move the music stands from the Music Room before and after the performance. Kindergarten students should sit with their parents until called by their teacher. Preschoolers should meet in the children's room in the back of the church at 6:40. As always, we would appreciate all picture taking and/or videotaping to take place from the back of the church or from the pew in which you are seated. Aisles need to remain clear at all times.
Also, please try to refrain from talking. In the past we have had some complaints from people who were trying to videotape their child’s performance and all that was picked up on the tape were the conversations of those people sitting around them. Please remember this is a performance and we should respect that. Thank you for your cooperation!
MAKING SCHOOL SAFE AND FUN FOR EVERYONE (out of uniform): St. Barbara’s student council is sponsoring a special raffle. On December 13th you can be out-of-uniform for 50 cents. You will also receive one free raffle ticket. Additional raffle tickets can be purchased for 50 cents each. If you have any questions, please contact Ms. Miler or Mrs. Ramski.

PICTURE RETAKES: Picture retakes have been rescheduled for THURSDAY, DECEMBER 14TH. Any student that did not have their picture taken in October will need to have it taken at that time. Your child will need to have their order form (available in the school office) and payment with them when their picture is being taken in order for Lifetouch to print a package. Otherwise, your child’s picture will be taken only for use in the classroom pictures. If you wish to have retakes, your child MUST have their portrait package with them. Only those students having their picture taken will be allowed out-of-uniform in dress clothes on retake day. Any PS4 students needing pictures or retakes should be in the Windemere Room by 8:30 am. If you have any questions, please call Dawn at 485-6645.
MARKET DAY NEWS: Market Day pick up is December 9th with seventh grade helpers this month.
BOX TOPS: A reminder that tomorrow, (Friday-Dec. 8th) will be the first collection for the "Mystery Christmas Present" contest, so send in all your Box Tops, Campbell's, Tyson Labels & Milk Caps. Make sure to look at the BOX TOPS BUGLE flyer in today’s tidbit. It has a collection sheet on the back.
Remember, Campbell’s will no longer be accepting the front panel of the label after 12/31/06. If you have ANY front panels, please send them in now. Thanks again for your support of these programs.
SHARE YOUR SOLES! Cub Scout Pack 59 invites you to donate your old shoes. We are responding to a great international need to help provide shoes to the many people in the United States and other countries that need them. In particular children that do not have shoes suffer very serious health problems. Please bring your old shoes to school. All sizes and types are accepted. Please be mindful of the dignity of the men, women, and children that will be wearing these shoes. No holes or damaged shoes please. Thank you!
FSA COOKBOOKS: Do you have any favorite recipes that you'd like to share with others? If so, send them in so they can be included in the FSA Cookbook. Submission forms are available in the school office or you may type or write your recipes and send them in. The more recipes we receive, the better the book will be! Also, don't forget to pre-order your cookbooks (no payment is due at this time). They will be available early May. If you have any questions, please call Dawn at 485-6645 or Debbie at 387-7367.
GREAT GIFT IDEAS: See attached flier regarding an Open House for Home Interiors. All are welcome!
CHRISTMAS HISTORY: Can you imagine not being able to say “Merry Christmas” freely? From 1558 to 1829, the Catholics in England were not permitted to do so. Therefore, they created this carol to express their faith and to remind the children of it at this time of year.
Twelve Days of Christmas
Partridge in a Pear Tree – is Jesus Christ
Two Turtle Doves – The Old and New Testaments
Three French Hens – Faith, Hope and Charity
Four Calling Birds – The Four Gospels
Five Golden Rings – The first five Books of the Old Testament, which outline humanities fall from
grace.
Six Geese a-laying – The six days of Creation
Seven Swans a-swimming – Seven gifts of the Holy Spirit
Eight Maids a-milking – The Eight Beatitudes
Nine Ladies Dancing – Nine fruits of the Holy Spirit
Ten Lords a-leaping – The Ten Commandments
Eleven Pipers Piping – The eleven faithful Disciples
Twelve Drummers Drumming – The twelve points of belief in the Apostles’ Creed.
When we hear this Christmas Carol, we can give thanks that we have the freedom to profess our Faith!
