ST. BARBARA SCHOOL
THURSDAY TIDBIT

Surprise Someone With a Random Act of Kindness             March 1, 2007

PRINCIPAL NOTES: We are looking for a volunteer to be in charge of updating the information on our school sign. If anyone is interested, please call the school office. Thank you!

Look for the insert of the March 7th Chicago Tribune regarding Jeremy Handley’s article about Multiple Sclerosis.

Please try to join us on the Fridays during Lent for the Stations of the Cross beginning at 7:30 p.m.

Parents, please do not walk your child to their classrooms in the mornings. Many parents are walking their child to the classrooms on mornings when there is inclement weather or when the child is tardy. We ask you not to do this. Your child should report to the school office when they are tardy. We are trying to teach the children to be independent. Also, the teachers are busy getting their class ready. Parents coming to the classroom at any time during the day sometimes causes a distraction. Please stop in the office and speak to Mrs. Carone. She can either call the teacher or take a message for the teacher to call you. It is our goal not to have people walking through the building. This is done for the safety of your children. Thank you for your cooperation in this matter.

FOOD ALLERGIES: If your child has a food allergy, and the school has been notified of such, you should receive a five page Allergen guide today. Please call the school office if your child has a food allergy and you did not receive the guide. This would mean that we are unaware of the food allergy. In today’s tidbit is a letter to all parents regarding the use of peanut/nut products in various menu items.

DR. SEUSS DAY! The entire school will celebrate the birthday of author Theodore Geisel, the creator of Dr. Seuss, with Silly Socks Day on Tuesday, March 6th. Wear a pair of silly socks to school to honor this wonderful author.

OUT-OF-UNIFORM: Wednesday is out-of-uniform (dress down) to benefit the Muscular Sclerosis Foundation. We want to show our support to Jeremy Handley by bringing in our donation of 50 cents or more to support his efforts for this worthy cause!

HOT LUNCH NEWS: April menus and order forms have been sent home today. Orders, along with payment, are due on March 21st.

HOME RUN INN: March 15th will be our next Home Run Inn Fundraiser/Fun Lunch. Orders are due on March 12th. Late orders will not be accepted. Call Nancy Brown at 387-7334 with any questions.

MANNA CERTIFICATE PROGRAM: Chipotle cards are now available in $10 denominations with a discount of 12% and Cold Stone Cremery is available in $10 denominations with a 10% discount. Gas City and GFS cards will no longer be on the order sheet but will still be available for purchase. Champps Restaurant & Bar is no longer available.

FSA "KNIGHTS IN THE KITCHEN" COOKBOOK: If you pre-ordered a cookbook, PLEASE send in your payment now! Orders are still being taken and should be sent in through the office in an envelope marked "Cookbook Order." Each book is $15.00, checks should be made payable to St. Barbara FSA. They will be available the end of April. If you have any questions, please call Dawn at 485-6645.

BOX TOPS/Campbell Labels/Tyson Labels & Milk Caps Update…The winning team in the “St. Barbara Super Bowl” contest was the Preschool Pandas with a total of 752 items collected. Please see the flyer in today’s tidbit listing each teams total items collected and details on the next contest, “CAMPBELLBOXTOPOLY”. There’s a new collection sheet on the back of it.

Please take a look at the Campbell’s website (www.labelsforeducation.com) to see the current list of UPC Codes and Lid’s that Campbell’s will accept. A major change is that ONLY LIDS from Prego, V8, V8 Splash Smoothies & V8 V-Fusion products are accepted, NOT the UPC codes.

IF YOU CAN FIND IT IN YOUR HEART...
My grandmother in Riverside (Great-Grandmother of Joey 8th grade, Sammie 5th, and Matthew Kindergarten) was recently diagnosed with kidney failure. Our family is trying to find someone to match with her, or anyone on the national list (if anyone is compatible with someone the registry and donates in her name, it will move my grandmother to the top of the donor list). I know it is a lot to ask of people, especially strangers, but it's worth trying. Many people don't realize that this can be a living donation (as we are born with two kidneys and can function on only one.)
Transplant for Elaine Denava, DOB is 4-5-32. The office is located on the 2nd floor of the Outpatient Building of Loyola Hospital. It is called the pre-transplant unit and Mary Kay is the person of contact....phone #708 216-3454.

Whether or not you feel you can do this, please sign up for the national organ/tissue registry, so "life goes on", even if yours doesn't. https://www.ilsos.gov/organdonorregister/

BUNNICULA AT LARGE IN THE LIBRARY: James Howe’s popular children’s book character, Bunnicula, comes to life at the Brookfield Public Library for our monthly after-school program, offered on March 15 at 4:00, for children ages 6-11. Come for an afternoon of games, crafts, and snacks, and enter our “Create Your Own Monster” contest. For more information and to register, call the library at 708-485-6917, or log on to www.brookfieldpubliclibrary.info.
