ST. BARBARA SCHOOL

THURSDAY TIDBIT

We Are Called to Serve
October 16, 2008

PRINCIPAL NOTES: The weekly Friday morning Mass will resume beginning next Friday, October 24th. Students should be in their classrooms by 7:50 to walk over to the church with their class. Parents and friends, please feel most welcome to join us! Since we will be in costume, we will not be attending morning Mass on Halloween, Friday, October 31st.

Remember that there is no school tomorrow.

We will have our yearly Halloween parade around the block on October 31st at 11:00. As in the past, we are encouraging all students to dress in costume on this day. If you are not in costume, please wear something showing the Halloween spirit. This will be a half day of school. Parents are most welcome to dress up and join us in the parade and/or the “Trunk or Treat”! To help in the scheduling of conferences, the Parent Teacher Conference sheets were due back today. If you have not already done so, please return the bottom portion on Monday (no school tomorrow). You will be notified of your exact appointment time.

Enclosed is a flyer listing the special "Red Ribbon Week" activities to be held next week. In addition to the "special" activities planned, our State’s Attorney’s office will be providing a presentation on Hate Crimes and Gangs to our students in grades 5th - 8th.

Information on the Magazine Sale went home yesterday. Check your child's backpack.

Congratulations to [] this month's cash raffle winner!

HOT LUNCH forms were due today. No late orders will be accepted.

WE ARE CALLED TO SERVE: These students have demonstrated their willingness to serve others: []

MEDICINE REMINDER: Please do not send any medicine to school (prescription or over-the-counter) without the Medical Authorization Form, the Medication Permission Form, and if your child will administer their own medication (inhalers, etc.) the Physician Request for Self-Administration of Medication sheets filled out by your doctor and yourself. These forms are available on our school website www.stbarbaraschool.com or in the school office. We are not able to dispense medicine to the students and they are not allowed to carry medicine on themselves without these forms.

FOOTBALL MANIA: Last chance to get in on the fun! All tickets and money are due by Monday, October 20th!

MANNA EXPRESS: Interested in lowering the cost of your tuition? Consider being a Manna Express certificate seller. [] Remember you do have control over your tuition cost.

JUST A REMINDER: St. Barbara Girl Scouts, who are working on their service project for their Marian Award Religious Medal, are having a baby shower collection to go along with Respect Life month in October. All gifts will be donated to Women Care Services in Berwyn, a nonprofit organization helping women make the right decision, witnessing miracles every day! We will be outside of church at the masses this weekend, Oct. 18 & 19, to collect your donations. There is also a box in the school office that will be there through Monday, October 27. [] Thanking you in advance

JDRF THANK YOU: Thank you so much for your generosity! Our JDRF Out-of-Uniform Day raised $312.00. We took the money to the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation's annual walk and had a great day. Thank you again for your generous support

A BIG THANK YOU to all the students, families and catechists who supported and helped out with the bake sale for Hope's on the Way. More than $400 was raised from the bake sale and more than $3,000 overall. Donations are still coming in. The generosity of our St. Barbara parish/school family is enabling us and others to help people who have lost so much. Three years after Katrina, some people have still not moved back home. There are many churches, schools and religious communities that still are damaged and in need of repair. Please keep us in your prayers as we journey to New Orleans and pray for our brothers and sisters of the South who are still struggling to rebuild their lives. May God bless all of you. Sincerely, Deacon Dave Brencic and Hope's on the Way
