PRINCIPAL NOTES: Please read carefully the enclosed letter regarding the new “emergency calling” service we have implemented at St. Barbara School.
Please join our school children on Tuesday, November 25th at the Thanksgiving Prayer Service at 9:00 a.m. in the church.
Please join us on Monday, December 1st, at 9:00 a.m. in the church for our Advent Prayer Service.
Because we only have school on Monday and Tuesday of next week, we will not be having a tidbit. Watch your child's folder for any information that may come home under separate cover.
The holidays are just around the corner! Why not buy a square for $10 (in our one month free tuition raffle)and try your luck at an extra $318.60 for holiday shopping!

TOGETHER WE CAN MAKE CHRISTMAS A LITTLE BRIGHTER for a needy family: In an effort to serve others, the students of St. Barbara School will be sponsoring an out-of-uniform day on Friday, December 5th. All proceeds will benefit Sister Margaret's Adopt-A-Family Program.
AN EVENING OF SPIRIT AND SONG: All are invited to attend John Angotti & Bobby Fisher in concert on Friday, November 21st at 7:30 pm. in the church. A free-will offering will be accepted.
DON’T FORGET... Saint Barbara Bakery will be open every Wednesday in November and December. Student Council will sell baked goods every Wednesday in the Windemere Room during the student's lunchtime. They will be selling cookies, brownies, cupcakes, etc. The children can buy a little treat after they have eaten their lunches. They can also purchase the baked goods to go and bring it home to share with their family.
GEOGRAPHIC BEE: Saint Barbara School will once again be holding the National Geographic Bee on Monday, December 8th for our 7th & 8th graders (during their social studies classes). This is the 20th year that the National Geographic Society has offered this geographic bee to students in thousands of schools across the United States. The top ten 7th & 8th graders will go on to the final level of our competition which will be Friday, December 12th at 1:30. We will then narrow it down to the top 2 winners and they will compete for the championship. The final winner of the bee at our school will advance to the next level of competition, which is a written examination to determine state competitors. All school winners are eligible to win the national championship and its first prize, a $25,000.00 college scholarship, at the national competition in Washington, D.C.! Good luck to all of them!!
MANNA CERTIFICATE PROGRAM: Please read the enclosed flyer regarding important information on ordering during the holiday season.
TRANSPORTATION REIMBURSEMENT: The 2008-09 Determination of a Serious Safety Hazard Application is now accessible at www.cook.k12.il.us Please be advised the application deadline is February 1, 2009. The application MUST BE POSTMARKED by that date for processing. Applications postmarked after February 1, 2009 will not be considered. This is for families living closer than 1 1/2 miles.
FAMILY QUILT REMINDER: Just a reminder that all squares for the family quilt are due on December 1, 2008. The quilt will be assembled over the Christmas break and presented during Catholic Schools Week.[]
YEARBOOK VOLUNTEERS NEEDED: Volunteers are still needed for Track & Field and Cheerleading. If a volunteer is not found for these pages, they will not be included in the yearbook. []
SANTA’S WORKSHOP will be held on Tuesday, December 9th from 8:30–2:30 and on Wednesday, December 10th from 8:30–11:00. If you can help, please return the completed flyer you received this week, send a note[] Remember you must have completed the criminal background check and Virtus in order to be a volunteer.
MARKET DAY NEWS: This Saturday is our Market Day pick-up, with 8th grade helpers. Volunteers, please arrive in the WINDEMERE ROOM by 9:00 AM. Thank you for your assistance. The Market Day team wishes a Happy, Blessed Thanksgiving to all our school and parish families!
FOOTBALL MANIA WINNER! Congratulations to [the winner] who won $200.00 through our Football Mania.8TH GRADE PARENTS: Tuesday, December 2nd is the Shadow Day at Lyons Township High School. You should have received a form on this already. This would be a great day for the students who are not planning on attending LT to schedule a shadow day at the high school of their choice.
