CONGRATULATIONS CLASS OF 1969! Thanks for visiting with us last Saturday, attending our 5:00 Mass and our Oktoberfest. We wish continued success and happiness to all of you!

SAVE THE DATES · Installation of our new Pastor, Rev. Robert G. Casey on Sunday, November 22nd at the 12:00 Mass.

· Parent/Teacher Conferences will be on Tuesday, November 24th. This will be a half-day of school with dismissal at 11:45. We are off of school for Thanksgiving break from Wednesday through Sunday.

PRINCIPAL NOTES: Bishop Thomas J. Paprocki, Auxiliary Bishop & Vicar of Vicariate IV will present "Dynamics of Conscience: Its Formation, Exercise & Suppression" on Sunday, November 1st from noon until 1:30 p.m. Conscience, opinion, culture, the teaching of the Church: How are they related? What's our responsibility? This event will be at St. Catherine Laboure, 3535 Thornwood, Glenview. For more information, please call 846-998-4707. There is no charge. Refreshments will be served.

We will have our yearly Halloween parade around the block on October 30th at 11:00. As in the past, we are encouraging all students to dress in costume on this day. If you are not in costume, please wear something showing the Halloween spirit. This will be a half-day of school. Parents and younger siblings are welcome to dress up and join us in the parade and the "Trunk or Treat"!

Thank you to Mr. and Mrs. Al P and their many volunteers for once again bringing us a wonderful evening at Oktoberfest. The music, food, and fellowship were great. Thanks for supporting St. Barbara School and Parish.

MAGAZINE SALE: Information on the Magazine Sale went home today with your child.

UPCOMING ALTAR SERVER TRAINING: Altar Server training, for all 5th graders and up that have received the Sacrament of Eucharist, will begin with an introduction and training on November 7th, 2009, from 8:45a-10:15a in Church. Recently, Fr. Casey met with the students and distributed an invitation for the children to minister at mass as an Altar Server. Permission slips will be coming home in the mail if you have received and returned Fr. Casey's invitation to the school or through Religious Education. Students, if you did not receive a permission slip, please feel free to come with a parent and you may complete a permission slip at the November 7th training. The continued training dates are November 14th, December 5th, and December 12th. If you are unable to attend on Saturday, November 7th, but are interested in Altar Serving, or if you have any other questions, please feel free to contact Fr. Casey, 485-2900, or Deacon Kevin or Mrs. Reynolds

CASINO NIGHTS NEEDS BLACKJACK AND POKER DEALERS FOR SATURDAY NIGHT OF OUR UPCOMING FALL CASINO.  PLEASE CALL STEFFANIE W IF YOU WOULD LIKE TO DEAL OR KNOW SOMEONE WHO WOULD BE WILLING TO HELP US OUT.   THANKS!  

WE ARE IN DESPERATE NEED OF BLACKJACK AND POKER DEALERS FOR SATURDAY NIGHT.    PLEASE CONSIDER COMING TO OUR DEALER BOOTCAMP FOR SCHOOL PARENTS:  Attention all School Parents.  Do you want to deal for Casino Nights but are little intimidated by the thought of being in charge of a table? Well, don't be!  Come on out Tuesday, October 27th at 7PM and we'll teach you to be comfortable with dealing blackjack.  Contact Steffanie W to sign up and get the details. J  Act now, as we only have 2 1/2 weeks left!!!!

DEALER TRAINING:  Dealer training is scheduled for Thursday, November 5th, 2009 from 7pm till 9pm in the gym.  Please come and learn, refresh yourself, or teach other people how to deal blackjack, poker or hold'em poker.  If you are a new dealer for Fall Casino Nights, it is recommended that you join us, especially if you have any questions about dealing any of the games you will be working that weekend.  Call Steff W  

CONFIRMATION MEETING REMINDER: To help prepare and shape our young adults preparing to be confirmed, parents and Confirmation candidates are requested to attend a mandatory Confirmation meeting on Monday, October 26, 2009, at 7:00pm in the Windemere Room. This meeting will provide the necessary information to prepare the candidate for this important sacrament.

HOT LUNCH NEWS: Pizza orders and November lunch orders are due tomorrow!

FSA NEWS: Trunk or Treat will return this year on October 30th! Watch for flier coming home soon.
Reminder... Our next Club Scrappin meeting is November 13th from 3:00-5:00 pm.  
FEAR FACTOR ~ October 30th @ 6:30pm: Each student was given a permission slip to participate in Fear Factor. All permission slips need to be handed in by Friday, October 23rd.   This will give us enough time to get the supplies needed. Additional forms are available in the school office or online. FOOTBALL MANIA begins on Sunday, November 1, 2009.  Week 1 winners will be calculated on Monday, November 2, 2009 after the Monday night football game.  To be eligible for week 1 and the entire season all tickets must be activated for October 31, 2009.  Send in your ticket stubs and money to the attention of Maria P  Remember for every ticket you sell, you receive a $5.00 tuition credit.  Good luck!

FOOD DRIVE: The holidays are coming and the cupboards are bare! Please help to replenish the St. Barbara Pastoral Care Center. We suggest the following:
PS-4: Kleenex and/or napkins
Gr. K - Pancake & waffle mixes and/or cereal
Gr. 1 - Muffin mixes and/or cake mixes
Gr. 2 - Boxed cookies and/or crackers
Gr. 3 - Soups, canned meats or tuna
Gr. 4 - Spaghetti sauce and/or canned vegetables
Gr. 5 - Canned fruit and/or juices
Gr.6 - Instant potatoes, boxed rice, noodles/pasta
Gr. 7 - Sugar and/or flour (please wrap the flour or sugar bags in a plastic bag before bringing)
Gr. 8 - Coffee, tea, cocoa, hot chocolate mixes, etc.

Please have the children bring these items to class the week beginning November 9th. The Food Drive will conclude on Friday, November 13th. If you have any strong boxes, please bring those as well. Thank you!!!

ALL BOYS 1ST GRADE - 5TH GRADE: Are you curious about CUB SCOUTS?  Please join us at our next den meeting Monday, October, 26th at 6:30pm in the Windemere Room to learn more and see what we're all about.  Please contact Lisa P for more information.

BOX TOPS CONTEST ENDS TOMORROW! Which class will 'Float to the Top?' Be sure to send in your box tops, Campbell's labels, and milk caps by tomorrow.

ADULT TRIVIA: We are still accepting last minute registrations. If you would like to play some trivia, have lots of fun, and possibly win some money, then this is for you! Please call Cathy K to register or just come with your team to the Parish Center before 7:00 on Saturday, October 24th.

JUNIOR HIGH TRIVIA & MIGHTY KIDS TRIVIA are this weekend. There is still space available. Come out and have some fun with your friends! Questions? Call Mrs. K

MARKET DAY REMINDER:  This Saturday is Market Day pick up!  Third grade family volunteers: please join us in the Parish Center gym at 9:30 to assist.  We'll have hot coffee and camaraderie waiting for you! 

SCHOOL BOARD: The next meeting will be Tuesday, October 27th at 7:00 in the Faculty Room. All are welcome to attend.

STUDENT COUNCIL will have a meeting on Monday, October 26th from 2:45 - 3:30.

BAKERY GOODS NEEDED FOR CASINO NIGHT:  We need goodies to serve our casino patrons.  If you can contribute bakery to Casino Nights, it would be much appreciated.  Bakery can be dropped off Friday during the day or brought to Casino Nights either night.  Please drop me a line if you can help us out.  Steffanie W

CALLING ALL DECORATORS!!!  The gym needs to be transformed into our Casino during the day on Friday, November 6th.  If you are available to help us decorate, please come to the gym anytime after drop off.  We have all of the supplies.  We just need the extra hands to help us transform the gym into the wonderful Casino it can be.  Remember, if you build the Casino, they will come....Hope to see you there.

JDRF THANK YOU:  Thank you so much for your generosity.  The St. Barbara Family donated a total of $302.00 to the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation's Ron Santo Walk to Cure Diabetes.  We had great weather and alot of fun walking.  We'd like to especially thank Vincenzo G for the beautiful t-shirts and cap he made and sold to donate to the fundraiser.  Thank you for your kindness, everyone!  Sincerely, Liz T

PICTURE RETAKES:  Picture retakes will be on Thursday, November 5th. Any student that did not have their picture taken in September will need to have it taken at that time. If you wish to order pictures, your child will need to have their order form (available in the school office) and payment with them when their picture is being taken in order for Lifetouch to print the package. Otherwise, your child’s picture will be taken only for use in the classroom composite. If you wish to have retakes, your child must return their complete portrait package on that day. Only those students having their picture taken will be allowed out-of-uniform in dress clothes on retake day. Any Preschool students needing retakes should be in the Windemere Room by 8:30 am.
