ST. BARBARA SCHOOL

THURSDAY TIDBIT

Shining Stars for the Future
January 7, 2010

PRINCIPAL NOTES: Welcome back! I hope everyone had a restful and Blessed Christmas!

PLEASE BE SURE TO COMPLETE AND RETURN THE SURVEY SENT HOME YESTERDAY REGARDING NEXT SCHOOL YEAR. THANK YOU!

A giant THANK YOU and CONGRATULATIONS goes out to the students and Mrs. Turek for the enjoyable Christmas Pageant! The children looked beautiful and sounded like little angels. Our sincerest thanks also to Mr. Enns and to our band members who did a wonderful job! Everything came together perfectly!

Thanks so very much to all of you for your kind thoughts, prayers, wishes and generous gifts to all of us during the holiday season! A special thanks for sharing your most precious gift of all with us...your children! We wish you all a blessed New Year!

Thanks, too, for all the prayers and well-wishes that I received during my absence. The surgery went well and I'm feeling great!

Please join us for the all-school Mass tomorrow morning at 9:00 and the 9:00 Mass on Wednesday for grades 5th - 8th.

Today we return to the old procedure for the Thursday Tidbit where every tidbit carrier will receive a hard copy. We will continue to run flyers only once (unless copies are provided from an outside source.)

Should there be a need to cancel school for any reason, you will be notified through SchoolReach, our automated calling system as soon as the decision to cancel school is made. Be sure to update your phone numbers with the school office it they ever change. You can also check the school's website along with listening to the radio and television stations listed on the enclosed sheet.

Just a reminder...For the future, we are asking that whenever you see the school phone number on your Caller ID, please listen for the message before calling us back. In the past, we've been bombarded with phone calls immediately following a telephone broadcast. If there ever was a true emergency in the school building, our phone lines would have been tied up, thereby paralyzing us if we needed help.

Be sure to read the enclosed letter from our School Board regarding the spaghetti dinner we will be hosting on Saturday, February 6th.

Receipts for Qualified Education Expenses for your 2009 tax preparation were sent home yesterday. If you have any questions, please contact Mrs. Angela Lawler.

Congratulations to our 1st grade teacher, Mrs. Christine Scharf, our 3rd grade teacher, Mrs. Judy Kunkel, and our 8th grade teacher, Mrs. Sharon Ramski who have recently acquired their Masters Degree!

Plan on attending our next FSA meeting this Monday, January 11th in the Faculty Room at 7:00 p.m. All are welcome!

St. Barbara's Office of Pastoral Care would like to extend to each of our thoughtful and caring families their heartfelt gratitude for all the various signs of caring shown to families in need in our area and surrounding areas of Brookfield. You helped to bring much joy to the lives of others.

It's TALENT SHOW time again!!! Look for the flyer in today's tidbit.  Start thinking of what you are going to do. The first practice is February 7th and the show is February 26th! Any questions, please call or email me. Thanks, Primavera.

BARNES & NOBLE BOOK FAIR: Thank you to all the people who came out for the book fair and all the people that made purchases during the fair dates. Our school will receive a gift card from Barnes & Noble for $218.09.  This will help stock our school library with new books for the children. Thank you for always supporting our school.

ALEX & ALDO'S Italian Restaurant, 720 E. 31st Street, LaGrange Park, IL will be having a benefit night for St. Barbara's this Sunday, January 10th. All eat-in, carry-out or delivery will apply.

BOX TOPS UPDATE: Our first check for this school year has arrived! We received $973.60 all because our wonderful school families turned their box tops in instead of discarding them. Many families working together can accomplish great things! Let's keep up the good work.J Details for our next contest will be in next week's tidbit. The first collection will be January 29th. Keep saving those box tops!

BINGO FRIDAY! Join us Friday, January 8th for another exciting month of BINGO! Hope to see you there.
