ST. BARBARA SCHOOL

THURSDAY TIDBIT

Shining Stars for the Future
January 14, 2010

FOR THEIR OWN SAFETY, STUDENTS SHOULD NOT BE PLAYING ON THE SNOW HILLS OUTSIDE SCHOOL. PARENTS, PLEASE TALK TO YOUR CHILD ABOUT THIS.

PRINCIPALS NOTES: Thanks again to all of you for your prayers and good wishes. All is well! We look forward to another semester of exciting activities. Unfortunately, we will not be offering the Spanish classes to the upper grades as previously stated. There were not enough interested students due to prior commitments and activities.

Thanks to Mr. Dennis K for his efforts in putting up the new lights in the front of the church. We appreciate his efforts to work so zealously to complete everything before Christmas Eve. What a beautiful job!

Remember that there is no school on Monday, January 18th in honor of Martin Luther King Day.

Please be sure to read the enclosed schedule for Catholic Schools Week (also available on the school website). I hope everyone will plan on joining us at the 11:00 Mass on Sunday, January 31st and also visiting our Open House immediately following the Mass. Be sure to stop in the Windemere Room to see the 7th and 8th grade student's Multi-Cultural Fair, including kindergarten through 6th grade multi-cultural projects, along with the 5th grade Biomes and 6th grade owl pellet dissections. Please bring along another family with you who might be interested in coming to St. Barbs.
If you have not already done so, please be sure to return your response to the survey for enrollment in the 2009-10 school year.

SHINING STARS FOR THE FUTURE: For the weeks of December 7th - December 18th, these students have set a good example to others by demonstrating good behavior and showing respect. These students may be out-of-uniform on Friday, January 15th! [see paper/email tidbit]

THE GEOGRAPHY BEE was a huge success! Ten 7th & 8th graders competed in the final round and the whole school came to the gym to cheer them on! There was music, prizes, dancing, and a lot of cheering going on!  It was a tough competition but [we have] our final winner [who] will now take a test to see if he can qualify for the state competition. Congratulations to all of our finalists and good luck!

PLEASE MARK YOUR CALENDARS and find your passports! On January 31st the 7th and 8th graders will be hosting a multi-cultural fair. Over twenty countries will be represented! Come and see their displays, their costumes, and taste their ethnic recipes! See ya then!
